Bridget Re, 15, a freshman at Winchester-Thurston, works on the bleachers at a North Braddock ball field on Tuesday afternoon. Heritage Community Initiatives has received several grants, including $25,000 from the Buhl Foundation and $5,000 from the Pittsburgh Pirates, to rehabilitate the ball field that was built in the 1920s. Some students from Winchester-Thurston, a Shadyside private school, have been volunteering to help rehabilitate the field in various ways, including cleaning, painting, landscaping, fixing the bleachers, and many other things.
